Dr McAuliffe gained his PhD in Human Geography from the University of Sydney, entitled ‘Multicultural Futures: the negotiations if identity amongst second generation Iranians in Sydney, London and Vancouver’. He has a BA in Geography, a Graduate Management Qualification from UNSW, and a BE in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sydney. He has just completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Western Sydney on cultural forms of belonging, inclusion and engagement for young people in Sydney, teaching Australian and Global Geographies at UNSW. He has taught various geography, environment and citizenship courses at Australian Catholic University and the University of Sydney. He describes himself as a geographer working at the intersection of social and cultural geography. His research focuses on identity, cultural diversity and transnationalism, with a particular interest in the intersections of national and religious identities, and the lives of the children of migrants. Dr McAuliffe’s most recent research and publications have involved young graffiti writers and issues of inclusion in Sydney.
