Mizzou Study Abroad

Mizzou Study Abroad

I was raised in Manteno, a small town in Central Illinois. I am an English major, with minors in Classical Humanities and Art History. In May of 2011, I will graduate from the University of Missouri and continue onto The George Washington University to pursue a master’s degree in publishing. My favorite thing about MU is the diversity. There are so many different cultures and people combined into this one location. I have learned so many things from the wonderful people I’ve met here.  My favorite class at MU wasn’t exactly a class on campus, but a study abroad trip led by the university and its staff. A faculty member took us to Manchester, England to study literature and creative writing. As an English major, it was amazing to see some of the places that influenced the writings of Wordsworth, Dickens and the Bronte sisters. It was truly a trip I will never forget. My favorite author would have to be J.R.R Tolkien. I have been reading him since I was a little girl, and he’s the writer who has most influenced my own writing. Right now, I am reading The Girl who Played with Fire and Serial Killers: The Method and Madness of Monsters. In the future I plan on reading A Lion Amongst Men. My short story on this site is“Cinderella’s Daughter”. I was lead editor for the periodical page, and I also edited the author pages.
